Diablo II players take note: The standard and hardcore ladders will be reset on January first, 2001 at 12:01 AM PST. This reset signifies the beginning of the new season, for all characters created before that time will be removed from the ladder. Existing characters will not be deleted, and the ladder reset will not affect them in any way other than their removal from the ladder. Players who wish to appear on the ladder, however, will need to create a new character after the reset.

Diablo II's ladder ranks players based on experience, giving those exceptional players a bit of fame within the game world. This reset will hopefully allow for a more balanced playing field for new players who wish to appear on the ladder. This new ladder season does not currently have an ending date, though it is commonly believed that the ladder will be reset again when the Diablo II expansion is released.
