Relatively shortly after Dragon Quest VII took Japanese store shelves by storm, selling well in excess of three million copies, Enix president Keiji Honda has recently officially confirmed the development of Dragon Warrior VIII. No official word has surfaced regarding the hardware platform DQVIII will be on, though rumors indicating the PlayStation 2 are percolating.

While no storyline details have been revealed yet, Dragon Quest series tradition holds that VIII will be a further development of VII, and IX (when created) round out a third series trilogy. Dragon Quest VIII is tentatively scheduled for a 2002 release...but after DQVII's release fiasco, RPGamer advises against holding your breath yet.
