Pokemon Gold & Silver Shatter Sales Records

The latest incarnations of Nintendo's Pokémon franchise have posted record-shattering initial sales numbers. A staggering 1.4 million copies of Pokémon Gold & Silver flew from retail shelves in the first week of release, and the red-hot trend shows no signs of slowing down. Peter Main, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Nintendo of America, projects "sales of 10 million units total of these two games in less than six months time."

The eclipsed record, unsurprisingly, belonged to one of Pokémon Gold & Silver's predecessors, Pokémon Yellow, which sold 600,000 copies the first week of release. To learn more about Pokémon Gold & Silver, browse RPGamer's game coverage.
