FFVIII Ships 1 Million Copies in the US

Square EA has announced that the omnipresent Final Fantasy VIII has shipped over one million copies since its release on September 8th. Apparently the advertising and brand name has proved big enough to duplicate the feat of Final Fantasy VII two years earlier, the only two RPGs to sell over a million copies in the United States.

With this under their belt, expect Square EA to be just as prominent in the coming years as they have been lately, with at least 8 titles expected to be released in the year 2000. Hopefully Final Fantasy IX isn't too far off in the future either!

6 million copies of Final Fantasy VIII have been shipped worldwide as of December 10th, not quite up to the 7.24 million copies shipped of FFVII to date. The holidays are still upcoming, though, and sales will surely still be strong.
