Indie Update: Sixteenth Edition
09.22.2017

Indie Games

We return with the sixteenth edition of our series designed to help RPGamer cater to the ever-increasing number of indie titles that our staff regrettably does not have the resources to provide full coverage to. The idea of this column is to quickly pass on the word about certain games to our readers that they might otherwise not be made aware of, and we hope both readers and developers find this useful.

This edition of our indie update column features the following titles: My Time at Portia: Garden Tale, Enoch: Underground, Forged of Blood, and Thea 2: The Shattering.

Couple of Brief Updates:

My Time at Portia

My Time at Portia is a sandbox simulation RPG from Pathea Games currently undergoing a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. Inspired by titles like Animal Crossing, Dark Cloud 2, and Harvest Moon, My Time at Portia sees players arriving at the town of Portia and running their own workshop. In addition to creating items in the workshop, various other activities are available, including farming, building up relationships, venturing into dungeons, fishing, and more. My Time at Portia is being developed for PC, Mac, and PlayStation 4, with Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Linux potentially being considered down the line. Pathea Games is looking for $100,000 in funding by October 11, 2017.

Garden Tale

Indie publisher Playism has released Japanese developer Bonion Games's Garden Tale. Available through Playism's website and Steam for $9.99, Garden Tale is a 2.5D simulation strategy RPG. The game tasks players with defending the Garden Kingdom from the invasion of the Zoo Empire in turn-based strategy combat. Scattered throughout the battle maps are Bonions, onion-like plants that explode when damaged enough, which players can use to their advantage. Different types of Bonions will explode in different ways.

Enoch: Underground

Unwhale Studio has announced action roguelite Enoch: Underground. Set in a world filled with catacombs, players control one of the few remaining survivors left in a ruined ancient city. Progression is loot-based, with different weapon types having unique attack patterns. The game is planned for release for PC via Steam in November 2017.

Forged of Blood

Critical Forge marked fantasy turn-based RPG Forged of Blood's appearance at this year's Tokyo Game Show with a new trailer. Funded through Kickstarter earlier this year, Forged of Blood is set in a morally grey, hard fantasy world, with player choices having meaningful impacts on the game's event. Players are tasked with retaking the continent of Attiras, dividing time between a strategic world map and the individual tactical battles. Forged of Blood is set to be released for PC in early 2018.

Thea 2: The Shattering

MuHa Games has officially announced the sequel to its strategy RPG Thea: The Awakening, which was released on console earlier this year, and is looking for funding for the game through Kickstarter. Like the previous game, Thea 2: The Shattering is set in a dark fantasy world based on Slavic mythology. MuHa Games is looking for £40,000 in funding by October 16, 2017, with the game initially planned for release on PC in August 2018.
