Nintendo showed a new trailer for the upcoming release of the Game Boy Color versions of Pokémon Gold and Silver on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console. In addition to the expected footage accompanied by music, this trailer reveals that players will be able to trade and battle each other wirelessly. Gamers in Europe will also be able to purchase limited packaged version of the games, which resemble the original Game Boy Color boxes and contain download codes. Japan will have similar packaged versions, but no such announcement has been made for North America.

Players can also obtain a code for the Mythical Pokémon Celebi to be redeemed in Pokémon Sun and Moon and the upcoming Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon by purchasing Gold and Silver before September 21, 2018. A future update to the Poké Transporter applicaton will allow players to transfer Pokémon from the Virtual Console games to the seventh generation titles. Pokémon Gold and Silver will become available on the eShop soon, on September 22 worldwide.
