During its Dragon Quest Summer Festival 2017, Square Enix made various announcements for new releases in the series. The first new announcement is Dragon Quest Builders 2, a follow-up to the crafting RPG released last year. Unlike the predecessor, which was connected to the story of the first Dragon Quest game, Dragon Quest Builders 2 will be connected to the final boss of Dragon Quest II. The game will also include slopes, water control and waterfalls, diving, and four-person multiplayer. It will be released for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
Another announcement was that the first three Dragon Quest games will be ported to both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS. Dragon Quest andDragon Quest II will be released digitally in Japan on August 10, 2017, with Dragon Quest III following with a digital release later in August.
Finally, Square Enix announced a Version 4 expansion for the MMORPG Dragon Quest X. The expansion, titled Dragon Quest X: 5,000 Year Journey to a Faraway Hometown Online, will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Wii U, and Nintendo Switch on November 16, 2017. A demo of the PlayStation 4 release of Dragon Quest X — coming to Japan on August 17, 2017 — will available to those who own the PlayStation 4 version of Dragon Quest XI.
None of the releases detailed above have been announced for a western release.
