Firaxis Games has unveiled a bunch of new information for the expansion to XCOM 2, titled War of the Chosen. This new expansion will include an altered story mode with new nemeses, new playable classes for units, and new enemy types that will alter gameplay in different ways.
For starters, War of the Chosen will change the game's story mode to focus on a new type of enemy: the Chosen. These Chosen are elite hunters sent by the Elders that will terrorize the player throughout the campaign, capturing heroes and growing in strength alongside the player. Three new classes were added to help against this: the Reapers, Skirmishers, and Templars. Also included in the bolstered enemy ranks are two new enemy types and a new alien called the Spectre.
A new spin on the gameplay will be the Lost, a mindless, swarming enemy that will attempt to attack the player. Well-placed headshots can deal with them or certain tools will allow them to be manipulated into attacking enemies instead. Other new features include Soldier Bonds, which let units that spend time together in battle become stronger, a new Photobooth mode, and a Challenge Mode, which allows players to attempt one-time missions to compare to other players.
War of the Chosen is the first major expansion for XCOM 2 and will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on August 29, 2017. It will sell for $39.99/£34.99/€39.99.
