inXile Entertainment has announced that it is working on Wasteland 3. The company has said it plans to begin a campaign on the crowd-funding website Fig for the game, which, if successfully funded, will arrive on PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The campaign will begin on October 5, 2016. No release period was given for the game.
This Wasteland will be set in a freezing Colorado and follow a new, fifty-hour story mode. Players take control of the sole survivor of a Desert Ranger squad. Due to its location, the locals have never heard of the Desert Rangers, and the player must start all over, rebuilding their reputation and squad.
Beyond the planned technical improvements over Wasteland 2, Wasteland 3 will also feature both synchronous and asynchronous multiplayer. Each player will control their own squad and can play together, but they can also split up and explore different areas seperately. Progress can be made during this time, but actions made by one player can affect the other player's actions, whether that player is online or not.
