Square Enix's divulged more information on its new IP during a live stream at this year's Tokyo Game Show. The game in question is Ikenie to Yuki no Setsuna, which is the Japanese title for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita game previously known as Project Setsuna.
The game's story begins on an island, where a sacrifice is offered every ten years in order to prevent monsters attacks. For unknown reasons, the creatures attack long before the next sacrifice is due, so it is decided that the ritual must be held early. The next sacrificial candidate is an eighteen-year-old girl name Setsuna with powerful magic. The protagonist must guard her until she reaches the place to perform the ritual.
Enemies are seen on screen in the dungeons, with no encounters on the overworld. There is a seamless transition into battles. Combat has an active time battle system.
Ikenie to Yuki no Setsuna is due for release in Japan early next year, with director Atsushi Hasimoto stating it will be out before it gets warm as "it's a snowy game." The game will release some time later in 2016 in North America and Europe. For a demonstration of Setsuna's gameplay, the TGS stream can be viewed below.
