Spike Chunsoft has released the opening movie for Mystery Chronicle, its upcoming "forced scrolling RPG". The video for the game, which is due to be released in Japan for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita on July 30, 2015, can be viewed below. It has also been announced the game will be receiving a demo in Japan. PS Plus subscribers will be able to try out the game on July 16, 2015, with everyone else able to access it one week later.

Although sharing a similar naming convention to the company's Mystery Dungeon series, Mystery Chronicle is effectively a reimagining of indie developer Smoking WOLF's One Way Heroics with the phrase "you cannot turn back until you win" featuring in its subtitle. The game features a world that is procedurally generated based off the name given to it by the player, and sees a deadly light slowly enveloping the world, which will kill the player if touched.
