During the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary presentation, Square Enix revealed a new game in the Final Fantasy XIII line. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be released in 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The developers state that there will be a strong focus on exploration as Lightning travels the world trying to save it before its final thirteen days are up.

Customization will play a big part as well, as Lightning is the only playable character. She can be customized a great deal and changing weapons will alter gameplay as well. The world itself is a major focus in Lightning Returns, as there will be a day/night cycle and NPCs will do different things based on the time of day. This game will be the final game in Lightning's Saga. No footage was shown at the presentation, merely concept art, so fans will have to wait for more details.
