CD Projekt RED will release the patch for the 2.0 version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings on September 29, which will provide some significant new additions to the game's content. The first thing it will add is a tutorial which will help guide newer players through the basics of the game. This tutorial takes the form of a series of short missions in which the player must help a wounded knight. When the tutorial is completed, it will recommend a difficulty mode to the player based on how well these missions are carried out.

The patch will also add a gladiatorial arena to the game where the main hero, Geralt, can progress through a series of opponents in a game mode separate from the main story. Various characters from the story, including both Geralt's enemies and his allies, will show up in the arena, and some can be hired to help him in his battles. Winning in this arena will provide gold, valuable items, and bragging rights on online leaderboards.

What is more, a new "Dark" difficulty mode will be added to the game, which presents a greater challenge than any other. This game mode will also feature some unique sets of equipment, called the Blasphemer's, Oathbreaker's, and Kinslayer's outfits. These outfits have very powerful effects, but they are cursed and will hinder Geralt if they are incomplete.

Finally, the version 2.0 patch will bring the usual range of tweaks and fixes to the game. Many of these are minor, like corrections to broken animations and fixes for game crash bugs, but it also introduces some significant changes to the battles system. Most notably, major changes have been made to parrying, Geralt's actions will no longer be interrupted when he is hit by a foe, and the targeting system has been improved.
