Nintendo has just announced the latest link in its Zelda Anniversary chain. From Sept. 28, 2011 to Feb. 20, 2012, DSi and 3DS owners will be able to download The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition for free via DSiWare or the 3DS Shop.

The updated edition has a few changes from previous versions of the game. Up to four players can still play co-op, but all multiplayer gameplay will be handled wirelessly (most likely either locally or online.) There will also be a single-player mode that allows the player to switch between the four Links. This certainly makes the game more accessible than its original incarnation, which involved multiple GBA units and a bunch of link cables.
