Konami Discusses Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin

In a recent interview, Konami product manager Dennis Lee discussed details surrounding Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, including the story, gameplay, and the release date. Lee also hinted that even more information and media might soon be forthcoming.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin takes place during World War II. Unlike most previous Castlevania games, exploration is not limited to Dracula's castle. The characters will be able to explore areas with themes such as English villages and ancient Egypt by utilizing magic portals created by the portraits painted by the castle's current caretaker. Dracula himself appears to be absent from this game; instead, the castle is run by a vampire named Brauner and a pair of mysterious sisters, Stella and Loretta, whose pasts are purposely obscured.

The main characters are Jonathan Morris, a descendant of Castlevania: Bloodlines' John Morris, and his childhood friend, Charlotte Orlean. Players can switch between the two at any time, and it is also possible to control both simultaneously, although Lee did not elaborate on how this is accomplished. Each has different skills; Jonathan wields the Vampire Killer whip, along with swords, and Charlotte excels at magic. Only when the characters work in tandem can the player succeed.

Also discussed were the game's multiplayer modes. Players will be able to play cooperatively either with standard remote or Wi-Fi in a Boss Rush mode. Also, items and weapons that are accumulated throughout the game can be sold to other players for in-game money.

Lee confirmed the November release but did not cite a specific date. However, he suggested that the release announcement might soon follow.
