Final Fantasy IV

The latest issue of Shonen Jump contained new information on the latest port of Square's classic Final Fantasy IV, this time for Nintendo's Game Boy Advance. According to the magazine, the game is being made as a collaboration between Square Enix and Nintendo, rather than just Nintendo, as some had speculated following the game's initial announcement.

Final Fantasy IV will mostly remain true to the SNES original, but it will feature some exclusive changes for the GBA. Specifically, a graphical upgrade is mentioned, and is apparent in the first images of the game. The sprites have sharper colors, and character portraits have been added to the speech boxes. No other specific changes were revealed at this time.

Shonen Jump also indicated that Nintendo and Square Enix are interested in bringing more Final Fantasy to the GBA, and though no concrete announcements were made, several other sources are reporting that the game has been labeled as the first entry in the "Final Fantasy Series Port Project." Final Fantasy IV will ship to North American retailers on December 12 2005 and to Japanese retailers somewhere in the vaguer time frame of Winter 2005.
