Square Enix president Yoichi Wada has explained to Japanese internet source MSN-Mainichi Interactive that all of the next generation consoles should play roles in the marketplace, and that it is a priority of Square Enix to reach all players. The company has been considering next generation multiplatform support since this May's E3, including a Final Fantasy title for the PlayStation 3, a new Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles game for the Revolution, and a version of the PlayStation 2 and PC hit Final Fantasy XI for the Xbox 360. Wada also desires to expand the popularity of the Dragon Quest series worldwide, and understands that the popularity of the major game consoles differs from country to country.

Multi-console support is not new to Square Enix. Even with strong support for Sony's PlayStation 2, the company released Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles exclusively for Nintendo's GameCube console. Regardless, Sony Computer Entertainment holds an 8.63 percent stake in Square Enix.
