Dragon Empires Flames Out

Codemasters has ceased development on its PC MMORPG, Dragon Empires. A brief press release blamed "technical issues" for the cancellation.

In a September 6 post on the game's official website, Codemasters Director of Development Gary Dunn elaborated, describing "unexpected obstacles with the server code, in particular our ability to serve clients at a scale which would have permitted us to launch the game as an MMO." Because of the delays, Codemasters undertook a six-week review of the viability of the project; ultimately, it was decided that it would take too much time and cost too much money to fix the problems.

Many members of the game's development team, including programmers and artists, are being transferred to Codemasters' internal development studios to work on current and future titles. The Dragon Empires website and community forums will remain open for the immediate future.
