Square Enix today announced that Star Ocean: Till the End of Time will ship to North American retailers on August 31st, 2004. This highly anticipated Sci-fi RPG for the Playstation 2 will ship in a special foil box packaging on 2 DVDs for a suggested retail price of $49.99(USD).

"We found it extremely important to present to gamers what was envisioned by the developers," said Jun Iwasaki, Co-COO, Square Enix, Inc. "I have personally played Star Ocean for countless hours and believe the team has created an amazing game. We hope people will pick it up and experience it for themselves."

The North American version of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time contains all the features that were added in the Japanese "Director's Cut" of the game. The development time was expanded to allow for the developer's to realize their true vision for Star Ocean 3. Multiple new features that were allowed by the expanded capacity of 2 DVDs allowed for extended high-resolution cinematic sequences, two new expansive areas that add new gameplay experiences, new playable characters that add more depth to the story, and a few VS. modes which allow players to customize the look of their character to an extent. Wrapping up all of this is the added enhancement of Dolby Pro Logic II sound.

Set in SD 772, humans and aliens now co-exist in a world of both advanced and under-developed societies, as the Gaxay Federation continues to research space in hopes of increasing their influence. The story opens with Star Ocean 3's protagonist, Fayt Leingod, taking his family and childhood friend, Sophia Esteed, to the Federation-managed resort planet Hyda for vacation. Unfortunately, their fun is short lived as the planet is attacked by an unknown space military force. During the attack, Fayt is separated from his family and Sophia and so begins his quest to save his loved ones.
