Although Square Enix has had a preliminary gameplay demo of Bakusou! Yankee Tamashii available for some time, it has only recently
moved into the public eye with the announcement of their online beta phase. Bakusou! Yankee Tamashii
is basically a game about living out your repressed dreams of playing hookey or tagging along with gangs, and starting
today, Japanese gamers will have a chance to test this theme out and see whether it can survive as an engaging model for
MMORPG play.
Details are still somewhat light, but as of now, the game revolves around a dual existence of school and street life
for its players. In addition to hanging out in class, going for a swim in the pool, or just wandering the halls, players can
also ditch on the more structured side of life and cruise the town with their friends, looking for folks to rough up or
trouble to start. The storyline for the game will also be centered around such activities and will feature special one-off
scenarios or involved story arcs that focus on topics from mundane study to hijinks and pranks around town. All in
all, a stark departure from the standard fare of treadmill play, resembling nothing so much as a real life simulator,
and a game we will assuredly want to watch for in the future.
