FFXI PC To Be Shinier, Newer Than PS2 Version

In the midst of upgrading the PlayStation 2 version of Final Fantasy XI, Square has released some tantalizing screenshots of the game's PC version. The screens suggest that waiting for the PC release might be worthwhile, as there will be a high-res mode allowing gamers to max out the resolution offered by their video cards. The PlayStation 2, of course, is limited to a maximum resolution of 640 x 480, so virtually any video card will offer a substantial improvement on that level.

Meanwhile, Square has also provided a status report on its progress with development of the English version of the game, although said report was limited to confirming that the English version was, indeed, under development. Whether this refers to the PC or PlayStation 2 version is uncertain; although FFXI for the PlayStation 2 has been confirmed for early 2003, no mention has yet been made of a North American PC port. Meanwhile, FFXI PC is slated for October 2002 in Japan.
