Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 Unleashed Into Stores
Dragon Warrior Monsters 2

Enix of America announced today that its Game Boy Color monster-collection RPGs Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Cobi's Journey and Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Tara's Adventure have been shipped to stores throughout North America. Released earlier this year in Japan, the title has already sold over 1.3 million copies to date.

DWM 2 moves the franchise in a promising new direction from the more standard monster collecting of the first game. According to Paul Handelman, president of Enix America, "Dragon Warrior Monsters 2...[is] taking an exciting new twist with the introduction of two distinct games that are intrinsically linked via their tradable game-play elements. The added RPG elements and side-quests ensure that...[DWM 2] are more than just 'hunt-and-collect' games."

Allowing players to purchase and play through either Cobi or Tara's adventures on the island of GreatLog, DWM 2 packs the classic RPG recipe of the original series with the added ingredients of breeding and training over 300 monsters plucked from the Dragon Warrior games, including creatures from the upcoming Dragon Warrior VII. As each game contains its own story, monster encounter rates, and settings, players must link their Game Boys together in order to experience the whole game. Linking gives players the chance to not only trade monsters, but also to battle their monsters against a friend, to team up with another player for battle against AI monster enemies, and to trade magic keys for use in unlocking the worlds and scenarios native to each version of DWM 2.

With both Dragon Warrior IV and Dragon Warrior VII scheduled for release on the PlayStation console in the near future, Dragon Warrior's popularity in North America shows no signs of stopping. This trend will undoubtedly be reflected with strong sales of both versions of Dragon Warrior Monsters 2, available at a store near you.
