Special Pokémon Crystal Gameshark Under Development

A special version of InterAct Accessories' GameShark is nearing completion and will come pre-loaded with a complete list of codes for Pokémon Crystal, as well as all other Pokémon games. Pokémon Crystal has been described as the 'perfect' game to use GameShark technology by virtue of "all the new levels, characters, and hidden treasures it offers for Game Boy gamers," in the words of John Hays, director of GameShark product development.

Included in the list of features gamers can access with the special edition are new levels, the ability to catch all Pokémon, an infinite supply of rare candies and the power to become the ultimate Pokémon master. A number of gameplay options can also be tweaked, allowing players to edit their own Pokémon, edit their items, and edit the level of their enemies' Pokémon.

Many of these enhancements seem as though they would detract from the overall enjoyment of the game; nevertheless, the ability to access new levels and tinker around with Pokémon as never before is an appealing option for players who lack the time to catch 'em all on conventional terms (although how many 8 year-olds actually lack free time is another question entirely). Just in case the codes included on the GameShark aren't enough, InterAct is included an Ultimate Pokémon Guide Book with the GameShark for Pokémon Crystal. The guide contains instructions on editing the game, as well as hacking brand new Pokémon codes. Interact has indicated the whole package will be available by the end of the month, and Pokémon Crystal is available in stores now.
