Shin Megami Tensei II Release Info
Atlus

Atlus has finalized its plans for the updated release of Shin Megami Tensei II for the Playstation. Known in North America as the source of the Persona spin-off games, Shin Megami Tensei II will ship in Japan on October 25 for 4800 yen. The original Shin Megami Tensei was re-released for the PSX on May 31 with Shin Megami Tensei: If... arriving sometime this fall.

Originally released in 1994, the classic Super Famicom RPGs give players a chance to work on the side of Heaven or Hell in the midst of an apocalyptic struggle. The series scored originality points by allowing players to summon monsters for use in their party or to negotiate with attackers instead of simply fighting them. The updated versions of the games will sport both revamped graphics and music but will keep intact the original characters and storylines.

Atlus' plans to remake the Shin Megami Tensei series comes as no surprise; the company plans to release the next chapter in the series on PS2 by the end of the year and, no doubt, hopes to generate pre-release buzz with the re-done prequels. Although the chances of the original three arriving in North America are slim, a localization of the series' PS2 title is not yet out of the question.
