Dragonriders Delayed Until September
Dragonriders: Chronicles of Pern

Ubi Studios UK's adventure-RPG Dragonriders: Chronicles of Pern will not meet its current August 7th release. Although the PC game has been in development for four years, RPGamer has received information that the game will likely not go gold until sometime in September. Even though the Dreamcast is close to finishing off its lineup, Dragonriders is still being developed for both PC and Dreamcast.

Based on the Dragonriders series by Anne McCaffrey, and developed with cooperation from the author herself, Ubi Studios UK hopes to successfully transform the scifi/fantasy epic into an adventure-RPG which holds the true to the spirit of McCaffrey's novels. RPGamer's preview of the game viewed Dragonriders in a positive light, touting it as a game with great promise. Players take the role of the young dragonrider D'kor in his quest to rid Pern of a disease sweeping across the land. Gameplay mainly revolves around D'kor carrying out various quests, much like in a standard adventure game. Still, Dragonriders contains many RPG elements such as the ability to raise attributes such as strength and reputation by fighting monsters and successfully completing tasks. The game also boasts a mammoth amount of interaction, allowing players to converse with over 170 NPC's in more than 120 different locations throughout Pern.

Although both RPGamer's preview and publisher Red Storm's official game page believed that Dragonriders: Chronicles of Pern seemed practically ready for final testing, some unforseen problem must have cropped up in the game's final production stages. RPGamer will be sure to pick up any information regarding this unfortunate delay; stay tuned.
