Atlus Launches Official Hoshigami Site
Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth

Tactics shmactics. The tactical RPG that fans of the genre are most excited about is Atlus' Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth. The game is being developed for Sony's ailing PSone by Maxfive, and will probably be one of the last RPGs on the system. Rumors ran rampant earlier that the team is comprised of members of the team that was responsible for Square's Final Fantasy Tactics, leaving fans in a state of near-bliss, but this is not the case. Nevertheless, Yu Namba, project leader for the game, has created a spiritual successor to Square's cult favorite, promising many hours of tactical RPG hijinks.

Atlus has decided that the game is worthy of special attention, and launched an official site for the game today. The site is pretty comprehensive, and includes some background to the story, as well as bios for sixteen of the game's characters. In addition, the game's battle system and general mechanics are given a complete once-over.

The battle system is probably the aspect of the game that is most anticipated by gamers, and, suitably, Atlus does a great deal to illuminate it. The most apparent difference when compared to previous genre entries is the Attack Session, which is basically a strategic counter-attack system. If a character is placed in Attack Session mode following its turn, an encounter with an enemy, via a Shoot attack performed by another party member, results in a Shoot counter-attack. Positioning of party members allows for chain-reactions and significant damage to the enemy, and possibly the retrieval of important items as well.

Promising innovative gameplay and attractive visuals, Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth is set to rock the tactical RPG world upon its Fall release. Check out our dedicated page for previous announcements, and keep an eye on RPGamer as more details are released.
