In a recent interview with Gamespot, Hironobu Sakaguchi has confirmed the rumours that have been floating about for the past few months. Final Fantasy XI will indeed see a multi-platform release, ending four years of Square-Sony exclusivity. The game will, however, still be released first for the PlayStation2 and PC, so don't expect other consoles to have the title right away. Nevertheless, this comes as great news to anyone planning on picking up an X-Box or a Gamecube(although the title has incidentally not been confirmed explicitly for either system; they are just the logical choices) rather than a PlayStation2.
Final Fantasy XI is still scheduled for a release at some point next year. Sakaguchi hopes that eventually, users worldwide and across a variety of platforms will be able to play the game. This announcement brings that vision one step closer to reality.
