GBC Zelda Trilogy to Become a Duo

Although it is commonplace to see a game delayed or even passed up for a North American release, nearly every officially announced game is eventually finished and shipped to stores. Sadly, this will not be the case for one of Nintendo's upcoming Legend of Zelda: Mystical Seed titles for the Game Boy Color.

Nintendo of Japan has announced that one of the three titles in the upcoming GBC Zelda trilogy -- Mystical Seed of Power, Mystical Seed of Wisdom, and Mystical Seed of Courage -- will be cancelled, although the identity of the title to be cut is still unknown. The reason given for this sad turnabout is the inherent difficulty confronted in programming all three titles to correlate to each other and share data, although the element of development time is suspected to have played a major part in the decision.

The remaining two titles in the had-been-trilogy will most probably see plot and gameplay changes because of this cancellation, although the extent of such changes is currently unannounced. Hopefully the series' developer will blend some dungeons, story bites, and other material from the missing title into the remaining two, but this may prove to be too time-intensive to be a viable option.

The Zelda: Mystical Seed duo is set to hit Japan by the end of the year, although this date may change as development proceeds. The North American versions of the titles are anticipated for a release sometime next year, but a specific timeframe is unknown at this point. Count on RPGamer to keep you posted on all the upcoming details regarding the newest in the Legend of Zelda family.
