Game Arts producer Takeshi Miyaji did not rule out the possibility of porting
the highly anticipated Dreamcast RPG Grandia 2
over to the PlayStation2. Speaking at the Ubi Soft Gamer's Day conference in Hawaii,
Miyaji said that a PS2 port was something that he and Director of Development
Katsunori Saito would have to discuss when they returned to Japan. Miyaji said that
he and Saito had differing opinions on the subject of whether or not
Grandia 2 would be headed to other
next-generation platforms.
According to PS2.IGN, Saito said that the company does not predict any problems with porting
Grandia 2 to the PlayStation2. However, he would
not comment on the difficulty of creating a Dreamcast-to-PS2 port because Game Arts had
not begun any conversion process.
The bottom line is that Grandia 2 for
the PlayStation2 is not currently in production, and may never be. However, PS2 owners without access to a
Dreamcast can remain hopeful, because the project has neither been confirmed nor denied.
Grandia 2 is the sequel to the popular
Sega Saturn / PlayStation game Grandia.
Featuring a new cast and fully polygonal characters and environments, Grandia 2
for the Dreamcast is scheduled to be released before the end of the year in North America.
