Sony is working on a hard drive for the Playstation 2 which will be
used to store information downloaded from the high speed cable modem connection they are planning.
The hard drive is said to have a huge capacity of 50 gigabytes and is planned to be released by the
year 2001 for about 10,000 yen, or about $100 US dollars. It's probably no coincidence that this
announcement comes so close after Square announced the PS2's compatibility with Sony's networking
capabilities. With 50 gigabytes to work with, one could save new characters, items, and perhaps even
added-on missions or locations. Let's hope Sony doesn't go add-on crazy, as is has caused the downfall
of systems in the past. Besides that, a high-capacity hard drive is somethign that all future RPG
developers should and probably will take advantage of, and looks to be a must have for die-hard RPG
fans.
