Having previously hinted at more DLC episodes coming for Final Fantasy XV in 2019, Square Enix has officially revealed four additional episodes to be released during the first half of the year. The series of episodes are together considered to constitute an alternative grand finale for the game and contains  the following parts (all titles are working titles and may be changed):

  • Episode I: Ardyn, "The Conflict of the Sage" — This episode focuses on the character Ardyn Izunia and aims to reveal the character's lengthy past as well as the reasons behind his actions in the game. It is scheduled to be released in the winter of 2019.
  • Episode Side Story: Aranea, "The Beginning of the End" — This episode focuses on the dragoon and guest party-member Aranea Highwind, and details the Starscourge from the side of the Niflheim Empire. It is scheduled to be released in the spring of 2019.

  • Episode II: Lunafreya, "The Choice of Freedom" — This episode focuses on what happens to Lunafreya Nox Fleuret after the events of chapter nine in the base game. It is scheduled to be released in the spring of 2019.

  • Episode III: Noctis "The Final Strike" — This episode focuses on main protagonist Noctis Lucis Caelum as he heads off to his final battle. It is scheduled to be released in the spring of 2019.

In addition, Square Enix also announced that the multiplayer expansion Comrades will be receiving a standalone release in the summer of 2018. Comrades will also receive new content in the form of a special update in summer of 2018, followed by a second update in the winter of 2019.

Final Fantasy XV was originally released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2016. In addition to Comrades, three story-based expansions have been released, focusing on party members Ignis, Prompto, and Gladiolus in turn. The game was also released for PC with further additional content and features in March 2018, with these available for console as part of the Royal Edition. An iOS and Android version, Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition, has also been released, splitting the game's story across ten episodes.
