RPGamer's semi-regular Kickstarter Check-In returns to showcase two currently-running Kickstarter funding campaigns for RPGs. This time out we take a look at the campaigns for Owlcat Games' Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Revelation Games' Ealdorlight.

Pathfinder: Kingmaker

Previously covered on RPGamer last month, Pathfinder: Kingmaker is an adaptation of Paizo's pen-and-paper RPG, Pathfinder. The game will be an isometric RPG along the lines of the original Fallout games, Baldur's Gate, and Arcanum.

Pathfinder: Kingmaker tasks players with building a kingdom in the Stolen Lands, a region that has been contested territory for centuries. Players will need to venture out into the wilds to claim lands as their own, all the while ensuring that things within their kingdom, and its various factions, are running smoothly.

Owlcat Games promises that players will have over ten companions to choose from to assist their created character. However, each companion has his or her own agenda, alignment, and goals, and these may be at odds with the player's.

Owlcat Games is looking for $500,000 in funding from the campaign, which runs until July 12, 2017. Those who pledge at least $28 will receive a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards. Pathfinder: Kingmaker is being developed for PC with an initial launch estimate of late 2018.

Ealdorlight

Revelation Games' Ealdorlight is a medieval fantasy RPG that looks to make use of procedural generation and is inspired by aspects of Mount & Blade and Dwarf Fortress. Set in a world where magic is rare, players control a character found as a small child whose family is unknown. Soon they meet a supernatural being called the Ealdorlight, who foretells disaster and tasks the player with gaining control of the kingdom.

Players will have various ways to go about claiming the kingdom, be it through diplomacy or force. At the start, players will make various decisions affecting the character's childhood before they being travelling between towns and villages on the edge of the kingdom's map. Soon they will gain access to important contacts that will put them on the path to being granted titles and move closer to become King. In the day-to-day aspect of the game, players will be able to craft equipment as well as accept various quests from the townsfolk and recruit new allies. Managing resources such as food supplies will be important when travelling long distances.

Ealdorlight touts a combat system with realistic damage, simulating injuries to specific body parts rather than an overall hit point total. The system is turn based and utilises a hex grid, with each turn involving a single action or move. Losing a fight is not necessarily game over; the player character may instead be permanemently maimed or captured for a ransom (or both).

Revelation Games is looking for £40,000 in funding for Ealdorlight, with the campaign running until July 6, 2017. Those who pledge at theast £15 will get a copy of the game as part of their backer rewards. The game is being developed for PC, Mac, and Linux, with an initial launch estimate of early 2019.
