We return with the ninth edition of our series designed to help RPGamer cater to the ever-increasing number of indie titles that our staff regrettably does not have the resources to provide full coverage to. The idea of this column is to quickly pass on the word about certain games to our readers that they might otherwise not be made aware of, and we hope both readers and developers find this useful.

This edition of our indie update column features the following titles: Thea: The Awakening, Exzore: The Rising, Rezrog, Pixel Heroes: Byte & Magic, Underhero, and The Rise of Mooncrest.

Thea: The Awakening

Indie studio MuHa Games' strategy rouglike Thea: The Awakening is now available on consoles. The game, which was initially released for PC in 2015, is now available for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Based on Slavic mythology, players are tasked with keeping their village alive after an apocalyptic force called The Darkness envelopes the world. The developer is currently working on a follow-up, Thea 2: The Shattering.

Exzore: The Rising

Developer Tiny Shark Interactive recently announced Exzore: The Rising, an open-world RPG coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in late 2018. The game is set in the medieval world of Eogaan and follows Damien Clive, a betrayed former commander of the Exzore army unit. Exzore: The Rising will feature a combat system that makes use of special mechanical gadgets, as well as a faction affinity system, with the player's standing among the factions affecting how the story plays out.

Rezrog

Kasedo Games' Rezrog, a turn-based dungeon crawler, is now available for PC, Mac, and Linux. The game is available through Steam, priced at $9.99/£6.99/€9.99 with a 10% launch discount until June 6, 2017. Rezrog features a party mechanic, where players have a selection of heroes at their disposal, but only one may venture out at a time. Should a party member fall and get captured, players can mount a rescue with one of their remaining heroes.

Pixel Heroes: Byte & Magic

Pixel Heroes, a game covered in the first edition with a release for Xbox One, is now also coming to PlayStation 4. The nostalgic RPG, which features turn-based combat with roguelike gameplay elements and 1980s-style graphics will be released on the console on June 15, 2017 for $14.99/£11.99/€14.99. The game is also available for PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, and Xbox One.
 

Underhero

Underhero is an upcoming 2D sidescrolling RPG from Paper Castle Games. Planned for release on PC later this year, the game notes the Paper Mario series as an inspiration. Underhero follows Elizabeth the IV and the Masked Kid as they attempt to restore Elizabeth's power and defeat the tyrannical Mr. Stitches.

The Rise of Mooncrest

After a failed attempt at Kickstarter funding an RPG back in 2015, KnightMayor has taken stock before returning with a fresh attempt in The Rise of Mooncrest. Inspired by the classic tactical RPG series Langrisser, The Rise of Mooncrest looks to tell the story behind the city of Mooncrest as it stands up to the invading Dol-Fayn forces. KnightMayor is looking for $35,000 in funding for the PC title with the campaign ending on June 22, 2017.
