Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood

In the latest Letter from the Producer livestream video, Square Enix provided numerous details regarding the upcoming expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, Stormblood. The presentation showcased some of the changes made to job actions and abilities, PvP aspects, and boost items to let players' characters jump previous parts of the game.

In terms of actions, the developers' are attempting to alleviate some of the issues that cropped up in Heavensward, specifically an ever-growing number of abilities, overemphasis of status icons, and a disparity between core and casual players. A number of actions have been taken to address these including Additional Actions from other classes being abolished and replaced with ones associated with particular roles (such as tank or melee DPS), new HUDs being introduced to each class to give players helpful visual hints rather than having to rely on numbers or small status icons, and the removal of various underused actions. A lot of the new actions were shown in a new twelve-minute trailer, viewable below.

A few adjustments are to be made to the PvP aspect of the game, primarily to make it more welcoming for new players. Firstly, the PvP level cap, currently at 60, will be reduced to any job at level 30. The attributes of competitors will now be entirely determined by their chosen role; equipment will be cosmetic only. PvP actions and skills will also be made completely distinct from the PvE actions and the number of available PvP actions will be reduced.

Finally, to let new players catch up quickly with veterans, Square Enix revealed upcoming boost items. There will be two sets of items: Scenario Shortcut Items and Job-level Boost Items. The Scenario Shortcut Items will let players bypass main scenario quests with two options: "Tales of Adventure: A Realm Reborn" will cost $18.00/£13.32/€15.75 and clear all main scenario quests up to patch 2.55 "Before the Dawn", while "Tales of Adventure: Heavensward" will cost $25.00/£18.50/€21.75 and clear all main scenario quests up to 3.56 "The Far Edge of Fate". The shortcuts will not increase any job levels and will be available on the Mog Station from June 16, 2017.

Job-level Boost Items will let players immediately raise a single job up to level 60. They will cost $25.00/£18.50/€21.75 each, with players able to select one Job-level Boost Item per account until patch 4.1. The boost will not be available for Red Mage or Samurai. Those who buy the boost will receive a full set of level 60 gear (inc. weapon) and have all job quests up to level 60 marked complete. Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood will be available for PlayStation 4, PC, and Mac on June 20, 2017, though those who pre-order will get early access from June 16, 2017.
