Indie Update: Eighth Edition

Indie Games

We return with the eighth edition of our series designed to help RPGamer cater to the ever-increasing number of indie titles that our staff regrettably does not have the resources to provide full coverage to. The idea of this column is to quickly pass on the word about certain games to our readers that they might otherwise not be made aware of, and we hope both readers and developers find this useful.

This edition of our indie update column features the following titles: Infinite Desolation, KynseedRunic Rampage, and Noahmund.

Infinite Desolation

Developer Far-Flung Games has released a new demo version and video for its top-down sci-fi action RPG Infinite Desolation. The early version is currently available through GameJolt, with a planned Steam Early Access release planned for the near future. Infinite Desolation puts players in a hostile environment filled with monsters and robotic enemies. The game will include at least three gameplay modes — story mode, "doomed" mode, and a speedrun mode — with co-op and versus multiplayer modes also in the works.

Kynseed

A couple of ex-Lionhead developers, who previously worked on the Fable series, have turned to Kickstarter to fund their latest project, Kynseed. The game is a 2D sandbox RPG including various simulation aspects such as letting players run their own farm, tavern, blacksmith, or other store while raising a family. Inspired by legends and British folklore, the game sees the player character offered a deal by the mysterious fae Mr. Fairweather. A mysterious acorn, the titular Kynseed, lets the player character realise their potential but at a cost. However, once that cost has been paid, players can continue the game by choosing one of their bloodline to become the new controlled character and keeper of the Kynseed.

Runic Rampage

Electrocosmos' Runic Rampage is a new title available now for PC, Mac, and Linux through Steam. A hack-and-slash RPG, Runic Rampage puts players in control of the dwarf champion, Grimbard, as he collects the fragments of a legendary runestone in order to turn around the fortunes of the dwarven nation. Runic Rampage is priced at $6.99/£4.99/€6.99, with a 15% launch discount available until May 24, 2017.

Noahmund

Noahmund is an upcoming title from Spanish developer Estudio Abrego, which is currently in the final couple of days of a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign (having reached its €10,000 goal). Inspired by various different titles such as side-scrolling RPGs and classic tactical JRPGs, the game features 2D exploration and a unique Motion Battle Chess combat system. The game is initially being developed for PC with a planned release date of late 2017.
