Phoenix Point

Snapshot Games, a studio headed by the developer behind the original X-COM series, has begun a Fig campaign for its new game Phoenix Point. The game will be a spiritual successor to X-COM with a mixture of turn-based tactical combat and base management. The game has been in development for a year.

Phoenix Point takes place in the year 2057, after melting permafrost has led to the rise of the Pandoravirus, which devastates the population of Earth. The Pandoravirus combines the DNA of animals and humans to create horrific monsters that rise up to attack the population. The player will control the commander of The Phoenix Project, an organization activated in times of peril. Upon activation, the player discovers their cell is alone with no contact from allies. It will be up to the player to discover their fate.

The main method of gameplay will be confronting the mutant threats head on. However, each individual fight will be a part of a bigger campaign, which will span the entire planet. As such, the enemies you fight throughout the game will mutate and evolve to defend against your playstyle. There will also be large-scale boss fight. However, mutants aren't the only problem. There are also several remaining factions of humans who also vie for control of what resources remain. Players will have to engage and interact with these factions to gather such resources.

As of this writing, the campaign is currently just over halfway to its goal of $500,000. The campaign will end on June 7, 2017, with an estimated release date of late 2018. A digital version of the game can be had for as little as $30 with higher tiers offering additional rewards such as a digital art book, soundtrack, and in-game items. Each backer level will also come with a copy of Snapshot Games' previous title, Chaos Reborn. The game will be available on PC, Mac, and Linux.
