Nihon Falcom has released some more details and images for the upcoming The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III. The recent updates introduce five more characters, two of which will be familiar to those who played the previous pair of games. As with the previous story, those yet to play the previous titles in the trilogy should beware of spoilers.

The first of the familiar characters is Aurelia Le Guin, who fought as a general in the Noble Alliance during the civil war. After the civil war ended she led an annexation force into North Ambria before retiring from active military service, becoming the new principal of Thors Military Academy Reaves II Branch where main protagonist Rean is a teacher.

The second familiar character is Towa Herschel, former student council president of Thors Military Academy and captain of the cruiser Courageous during the civil war. After graduating, she worked with various NGOs throughout the empire before joining the Thors Military Academy Reaves II Branch as the professor in charge of Class IX (Accounting Division).

The third character detailed is a new face. Michael (last name not yet revealed) is an elite special duty major with the Railway Military Police. During the civil war he fought alongside Prince Olivert in the western part of Erebonia. He is also a professor at Thors Military Academy Reaves II Branch, though while doing so he is also undertaking secret tasks including keeping an eye on Aurelia and surpressing Jaeger activity.

The other two characters are students at Thors Military Academy Reaves II Branch. Musse Egret is part of Class XI as is from a noble family in western Erebonia. She previously attended Saint Astraia Girls’ School but dropped out and suddenly decided to join the military. She frequently attempts to seduce Rean. Finally, Ash Carbide grew up in the slums of a city in western Erebonia. Enrolled in Class VIII (Tactics Division), his actions repelling a brigand during the civil war put him in high demand among military organisations. In contrast to Musse, Ash usually tries to pick a fight with Rean whenever possible.

Trails of Cold Steel III is planned for release in Japan for PlayStation 4 later this year. The previous two games were released by XSEED Games in North America and NIS America in Europe, with the second game winning RPGamer's Game of the Year award for 2016. XSEED Games is also releasing the third game in the Trails in the Sky trilogy, which takes place in the same world as Trails of Cold Steel, for PC on May 3, 2017.
