A good amount of news came out of yesterday's Nintendo Direct presentation for North America and Europe, but there were also items of interest to RPGamers in the Japanese Direct. As with the western presentations, the Japanese video featured upcoming games for both the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch.

Though no fresh information was provided, the three upcoming Nintendo 3DS titles recently announced by Atlus — Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology, Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2, and Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey — all appeared in a new trailer for the trio of games. Meanwhile, Level-5 announced a Japanese release date for the Nintendo 3DS RPG part of its The Snack World cross-media project. Now named The Snack World: Trejarers, the game will release on July 7, 2017. Finally for the 3DS portion, Square Enix showed a short new trailer for Dragon Quest XI, which is due out in Japan on July 23, 2017.

Dragon Quest also appeared in the Switch portion, with the reveal that the Switch version of MMORPG Dragon Quest X will be released in fall 2017. Those who own the Wii version of the game, which ends service with the release of the version 3 update, will be able to get a free upgrade to the Switch version. The other piece of Switch-related RPG news concerned Gust's Nights of Azure 2. The game, which is planned for release in Japan sometime in 2017 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, will also be released on Switch in Japan this year.
