At the NieR Music Concert & Talk Live event in Tokyo, Square Enix showed new media for the upcoming action RPG NieR: Automata. This included a live music performance, a short gameplay demonstration, and screenshots and artwork for several of the game's characters.
The characters are all android units, part of a squad called YoRHa and known only by their code numbers. The lead character is known as 2B, an all-purpose battle android that attacks with blades up close and the "Pod" system at a distance. 9S, the male of the trio, serves a more investigative purpose in YoRHa and specializes in information collection via hacking. A2 is a protoype model that specializes in close-range attacks, but is currently not in use.
NieR: Automata is the sequel to 2010's NieR, this time under development by Platinum Games. The game is set to release on PlayStation 4 in 2016.
