Monster Hunter X uses the home village of Beruna, which is at the base of a mountain range. The game is said to offer players more playing style options, with four distinct styles of play available. There will more be more variation between various actions, with each class also receiving special attacks.

Capcom also announced Monster Hunter Diary: Poka Poka Airou Village DX, a 3DS version of the PSP spin-off Monster Hunter Diary: Poka Poka Airou Village, developed by From Software. The game stars the series' sapient cat species, felynes, and sees players send the felynes on various quests while managing their village.
