During all of the E3 hubbub in North America, Square Enix snuck a little RPG announcement into the Japanese media. Final Fantasy Explorers is a multiplayer action RPG for the Nintendo 3DS featuring an extensive job system. The company has described it as a "light" version of its main series Final Fantasy MMORPGs.
While we don't know any details about the story yet, Explorers will be set on an island. It appears that the player will be able to traverse the entire world on foot.
The game will feature around twenty playable jobs, and has so far announced Knight, Monk, White Mage, Black Mage, Dragon Knight, Paladin, Thief, Ninja, Red Mage, Time Mage, and Bard. There can be up to four players in a party, and empty party slots can be filled with tamed monsters.
Square Enix hopes to turn this into an action oriented sub-series of the Final Fantasy brand. It has not yet been announced for release in North America.
