Final Fantasy XIV

Square Enix has announced that its upcoming MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV, will be released worldwide for the PC on September 30, 2010. The Beta phase for the PC version will begin in early July. Unfortunately for console fans, the PlayStation 3 version will not be out until March 2011.

The Collector's Edition for Final Fantasy XIV will contain an impressive number of goodies for gamers who are interested in ponying up $75, which is $25 more than the standard box. The Collector's Edition includes:

  • Early access, several days before the Standard Edition release
  • A behind-the-scenes DVD
  • A security token used to provide extra protection for the player's account
  • A Final Fantasy XIV-branded tumbler (may only be in the European CE)
  • A map of Eorzea, the land in which the game takes place
  • A travel journal filled with concept art
  • A guest pass that can be used to invite a friend to play for a limited time.

In addition, Collector's Edition pre-orders will include the Onion Helm, an in-game item that increases character recovery rates after dying in battle. Standard Edition pre-orders will include Garland Goggles, which increase the rate of a character's skill progression. All characters created by a player will receive these bonus items, and all new copies of Final Fantasy XIV will receive 30 days of free playtime.

Gamers interested in applying for the Final Fantasy XIV Beta can sign up on the Official Site. For more pictures of packaging and of the in-game bonus items, see our image gallery.
