A recent Famitsu article has provided some information about The Third Birthday, otherwise known as the third entry in the Parasite Eve series. Originally planned as an episodic cell phone game, The Third Birthday will now be arriving on the PlayStation Portable. The game stars Aya Breya, the main protagonist of the series, who is now working for the FBI in Manhattan.

The Third Birthday will be an action RPG in which Aya will need to lock onto enemies before defeating them. The more damage Aya takes, the more torn her clothing will appear, which the developers claim will increase the tension in the game.

A major feature of the combat system is Overdrive Mode, in which Aya can take control of and manipulate the people around her. This ability will be central to the story's progression as well as to the combat system. Controlled targets will possess both their own physical strength and Aya's "foundation strength", which presumably has to do with her mental faculties.
