Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

During its E3 Media Briefing, Nintendo revealed extensive new details on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. First, the company revealed that Twilight Princess will now no longer be one game, but two, as there will be a different version exclusively for the Nintendo Wii console.

The company revealed extensive details as to how Twilight Princess Wii will control. Wherever the Wii controller is pointed, there will be a Navi-like fairy which serves to represent the controller's location. The fairy can be moved around to open up menus and rapidly navigate through them. During certain segments of the game, such as when using the bow and arrows or the boomerang, the fairy will be replaced with a crosshair, and the player will be able to move it around to aim the weapons more accurately.

The fairy will remain in play during sword battles, where the player will be able to simply press the B button on the remote to perform an attack. However, motions with the remote can be incorporated to vary the attacks, such as changing attacks from slashes to thrusts. Link will be able to pick up objects with the A button, such as boxes, and the player will then be able to throw them by making a tossing motion with the remote control. By making a quick rotation with the nunchaku attachment, the player can have Link do his classic spin thrust attack. If the spin thrust is followed by a quick downward motion with the nunchaku, Link will finish off enemies with a downward leap attack.

The demo that was performed also showed off the game's fishing system. Not much was shown, except that when the player pulled back the remote control, Link pulled back his fishing rod to capture the fish. The demo also showed one of Link's tools in the game, iron boots. While in prior games the iron boots solely served to make Link heavier to push switches, this time a new functionality is being added: lifting Link up. The demo showed Link pressing a button with the iron boots to activate a moving magnetic platform. The hero was then pulled up into the air to stand upside-down on the bottom of the platform.

Both versions of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will be released on the Wii console's launch day. Nintendo did not reveal a specific date, but the games will come out in the fourth quarter of 2006.
