Sony finally announced the pricing for the upcoming PlayStation 3 console after months of speculation. Contrary to previous reports, there will actually be multiple SKUs. One version will come with a 20GB hard disk, and it will retail for $499 ($549 Canadian). A second version will be paired with a 60 GB HDD for $599 ($659 Canadian).
Also announced is that the PS3 will feature motion detection in the controller, similar to Nintendo's Wii. However, unlike the Wii, it will not require an external sensor. This ongoing "inspiration" follows in the grand tradition of the D-Pad, the analog stick, and the Rumble Pak.
Rounding out the announcements is the new launch date. Sony clarified the spring 2006 window with its claim the console will hit stores on November 17. It should be noted that it will indeed be spring in the southern hemisphere at launch.
