The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Pete Hines, Vice President of PR and Marketing for Bethesda Softworks, announced in a posting on the official website for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion that plans are being made for a patch for the game. "We are working on a patch/update for both the PC and Xbox 360. It will address a number of issues that we have found and ones that have been reported to us and confirmed," he said. "It is our plan to first release it as a beta patch for the PC when it has cleared our initial testing cycles internally."

While no specific game issues or problems were mentioned, several issues that have come to light are game crashes, bugs that supply infinite money, and an arrow switching glitch that multiplies inventory items.

Also mentioned was that new downloadable content that will be available: the Orrery, and the Wizard's Tower. As previously reported by RPGamer, these downloads will offer gamers new places to explore and play within the game. Prices have also been adjusted for both locations, as both will cost PC gamers $1.89 a piece, or 150 Microsoft Points (about $1.89-2.00) for Xbox 360 gamers. "We're still trying to find the right spot, so we're putting a much larger plugin out for less than the last one and we'll see what happens," the company said in a post on its message forum.

More details about the two locations have been released as well:

"The Orrery allows you to help the Mages Guild of Cyrodiil repair the Imperial Orrery, an ancient dwarven machine with mystical properties. Bandits have stolen a shipment of parts destined for the Arcane University; if you can return them, the Orrery will function once more. A new, full-featured quest is available, including dialogue, journals, and rewards. Players will have access to the Imperial Orrery in the Arcane University, an incredible mechanical marvel, and new powers will be available to characters based on the phases of the moon.

"The Wizard's Tower is located high in the Jeral Mountains of Cyrodiil away from prying eyes. This tower, called Frostcrag Spire, will become available. Packed with numerous useful enchancements, this structure will prove invaluable to magic-oriented characters. The tower is a fully detailed place for gamers to explore, with a breathtaking view of Cyrodiil from the highest point in the land. The Tower has simple furnishings including a bed for leveling up, and an indoor botanical garden with over 130 specimens, including Oblivion-native herbs. Summon Atronach Familiars that obey your commands, and make use of instant teleports to every Mages Guild in Cyrodiil, and a new Spell and Recharge vendor in the Imperial City. Fully upgrade the furnishings in your lair to suit your needs, upgrade to a fully functional Enchanting and Spellmaking station with no need to join the Mages Guild, and upgrade to a laboratory that buffs your Alchemy skill."

As previously noted, the downloads are expected to be released sometime next week.
