Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the original Digital Devil Saga.

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2's official site has been launched by Atlus with new information on the game. Serph, the hero of the first game, thought that he had stopped the wars after he and his friends fought through the city of endless rain, the Junkyard, and eventually defeated all other tribes and gained the right to ascend to Nirvana. Things did not go as planned and the Junkyard vanished. His friends were scattered to the four winds, and the promise of paradise in Nirvana that he'd held onto throughout his journey through the Junkyard turned into the scarred, dessicated shell of an ancient city.

Not too long into this new adventure, Serph is attacked by soldiers all adorned in white bodyarmor bearing the church of Karma sigil. Being faced by such circumstances, his battle instincts kick in, and he takes out four soldiers with one of their own guns. Not admitting defeat, the enemies transform into demons, something Serph thought he would never see in Nirvana. With this one event, he transforms himself and begins the last war for Nirvana.

Familiar faces, both former companions and enemies from the first game return for the sequel. But, whether any will be playable is unknown at this point. Besides their human and demon forms, characters now have a mid-transformation form called "Shura." Outside forces cause the characters to become stuck in these conditions; it isn't controlled by the player. In Shura form, only one piece of the character changes to demon form leaving their defense at human level and keeping them from using magic. On the bright side, their attack power flows through the roof with a great percentage of critical hits on every move.

New items for the team to use for defense include the "Karma Ring." Various types of rings can be acquired by being dropped by monsters or bought in stores throughout the game. Players can upgrade the ring's powers and expand its effects by loading its empty slots with certain gems. The mantra system has also received a heavy upgrade, being extended and deepened to a certain extent.

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2 was released in Japan on January 27 . It will be released in North America by Atlus in the Fall of this year.
