Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Offers Character Customization, No Experience Required

Nintendo recently held a press conference in Japan to discuss some of its upcoming products, including the Square-Enix title Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles.

Animation in FF: CC will move along at the rate of 30 frames per second. However, load times when moving from the world map to the smaller maps (for dungeons, villages, and the like) will be four or five seconds long.

Customization will be a notable feature of FF: CC, as players will be able to create their own characters at the beginning of the game. The initial setup will prompt players to select single mode, in which the player goes solo without the aid of even computer-controlled characters, or multiplayer mode, in which up to four players can team up with the aid of Game Boy Advance units. Those who choose to go it alone have the option of turning on the multiplayer mode later in the game. With the mode selection out of the way, players will have to name their character, and choose the character's gender, race, hair color, and parents' profession, before setting out on the Crystal Caravan to venture into the wide world of FF: CC.

As previously reported, FF: CC will not have summons or CG movies, but it has also been revealed that it will lack another classic element: experience points. Defeated monsters will only leave money, items, or magic behind. Yet, like other titles in the Final Fantasy family, players will be able to shop around the towns and forge new weapons at the local smithy.

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles will arrive in Japanese stores on July 18, but the Crystal Caravan will not roll into North America until early November.
