Ancient Game Gets New Attention

The newest issue of Famitsu brought strange news this week, as it contained information regarding the remake of Tengai Makyou 2: Manjimaru, an ancient PC-Engine game, for the Gamecube and Playstation 2. This remake is being handled by Red Entertainment and published by Hudson.

Literally translated as "Far East Eden," Tangai Makyou 2 will be set in a fairy tale land known as Jipang, which is modeled after Japan, and follows the exploits of a young hero named Namida (whose name literally translates to "Tears"). The game is being supervised by none other than Ouji Hiroi, the original's creator, but probably better known for his work on the Sakura Taisen series. This revamped version will run on a modified version of Sakura Taisen's 3D engine (a huge leap from the original, whose battles were fought, not on a background, but on a series of color gradients).

Tangai Makyou 2 will be made available to the Japanese public on September 25 and October 2 for the GameCube and PlayStation 2, respectively. Additionally, Tengai Makyou 3 is already in the works and aimed for a spring 2004 release.
