Final Fantasy XI Windows Beta Test Begins
Final Fantasy XI

Starting tomorrow, Square of Japan will begin accepting beta test applications for the Windows version of its massively multiplayer online RPG, Final Fantasy XI. Applications will be handled on the company's PlayOnline web site, and the test is scheduled to begin on June 18th, while new applicants will be continuously selected over the summer.

Final Fantasy XI recently launched in Japan for Sony's PlayStation 2, and it was welcomed by mediocre sales and many server problems. However, at this point, Square has things under better control and has even begun releasing patches to improve the game. Final Fantasy XI is scheduled for release on the PS2 in North America in early 2003, with a European launch to follow the next year; the Windows version has yet to be officially announced for release in either region.
